NEW MUSIC MONDAY: Dead Stars

Feeling disenchanted about the current state of rock n roll these days? Do you like bands like Dinosaur Jr., Guided by Voices, Pavement, The Pixies, Mudhoney, Sonic Youth, Smashing Pumpkins, or Weezer??

Today is your lucky day, because I'm gonna turn you on to a band I just got turned on to today called Dead Stars.

Dead Stars is a three piece from Brooklyn that is a total throwback to early to mid 90's rock ("grunge"??), you know... before the kids you hated in high school ruined it all for you, before the radio dug up 400 bands that "sound like pearl jam" and ruined it all for you, before the swell of rock/rap crossovers ruined your brain and made you start listening to white noise 24/7.

You can check out Dead Stars by visiting their myspace page here

Today we celebrate the life of Dwayne Goettel

August 23, 1995 marked the passing of huge musical influence on me, Dwayne Goettel.

Dwayne was probably most notably known for his keyboard work with the Canadian industrial pioneers Skinny Puppy, but was also a member of Psyche,Doubting Thomas, Cyberaktif, and The Tear Garden, and was the founder of  Subconscious Records.

Today you should take a minute to raise a glass, take a toke, or just put on some records to remember and celebrate an amazingly talented and hugely influential musician.
Cheers Dwayne R.I.P.
